Douglas D. Batchelor, Jr. practices in the areas of health care, local government, public finance, commercial business and real estate matters. Mr. Batchelor began his career with the firm on January 1, 1969 and since that time has worked in most facets of the firm's practice. His health care practice is focused on the representation of hospitals.
Mr. Batchelor has served as county attorney for Columbia County, Georgia since 1992. He also serves as counsel to a housing authority, development authority, residential care facilities for the elderly authority, canal authority and solid waste authority.
Mr. Batchelor has been involved as bond counsel, issuers counsel, underwriters counsel or owners counsel in the issuance of local government general obligation bonds, water and sewer bonds, school bonds, revenue bonds, industrial development bonds, multifamily housing bonds, health care facility bonds and 501(c)(3) bonds. He worked extensively on various legal aspects of the development, construction and financing of many of the projects along Augusta's Riverwalk.
Mr. Batchelor is a member of the Augusta Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the South Carolina Bar and the Florida Bar. In addition, he is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Georgia Academy of Hospital Attorneys, the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the County Attorneys' Section of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.
Mr. Batchelor earned his B.A. degree in 1966 from the University of Virginia and his J.D. degree in 1968 from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi.
