Neal W. Dickert recently returned to the law firm on January 1, 2008, after serving eleven years as a Superior Court Judge with the Augusta Judicial Circuit.  Mr. Dickert will concentrate in the areas of general civil and commercial litigation, mediation and arbitration, and appellate practice.

 

Before his election to the Superior Court bench, Mr. Dickert practiced with the law firm from 1974 to December, 1996.  In that capacity, he had extensive civil trial experience.  He tried numerous jury and non-jury trials in cases involving products liability, workers compensation, FELA, construction litigation, personal injury, negligence, medical malpractice, contract disputes, and ERISA in both the state and federal courts of Georgia and South Carolina.

           

As a judge, Judge Dickert presided over civil, criminal, and domestic cases and tried more than 100 jury trials.  He also sat with the Georgia Supreme Court in the case of Mead v. Sheffield, 278 Ga. 268, 601 S.E.2d 99 (2004).  He was the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education for the state of Georgia at the time he left the bench.  He is a graduate of the National Judicial College and served as a group facilitator for the General Jurisdiction course at the college. 

 

Mr. Dickert is the author of the Georgia Handbook on Foundations and Objections, published by Thomson-West. This book, published initially in 2003 and updated annually, is one of Thomson-West’s most popular publications in Georgia.  It is used by numerous trial lawyers around the state.  He has lectured extensively at continuing education seminars and programs in the Southeast, as well as the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada in Reno.  He has lectured on subjects to include evidence, trial practice and advocacy, expert witnesses, judicial ethics, insurance coverage, construction law, and consumer litigation. 

 

Mr. Dickert is the past president of the Augusta Bar Association, a former member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia, former president of the Wofford College National Alumni Association, past president of the Augusta Rotary Club, and a Paul C. Harris Fellow of Rotary International. 

 

Mr. Dickert earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1974, where he was a member of the notes staff of the South Carolina Law Review and a member of the Wig and Robe Scholarship Honorary Society.  He graduated from Wofford College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  He also holds an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina.  He is a United States Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.  He and his wife of 38 years, Floride, have one son and one grandson.
