Patrick J. Rice practices in the areas of
general civil litigation, health care and general business matters.
Mr. Rice has been a trial lawyer for 35 years and has
been a Fellow in the prestigious American
College of Trial Lawyers for
over 20 years. He is listed in the "Best Lawyers in America,"
and, has been selected for inclusion in every edition of Georgia’s
“Super Lawyers.”
He has tried a wide variety of cases including disputes
involving: professional, products and premises liability; personal
injury; securities fraud; banking, commercial and general business
matters; trademarks; construction issues; non-competition agreements;
governmental liability; eminent domain; and a diversity of general
contractual, tort and estate disputes. A significant portion of his
practice in recent years has been devoted to the defense of national and
statewide class actions. Mr. Rice has extensive experience in both state
and federal trial and appellate courts. Mr. Rice also serves as a
mediator in commercial, personal injury and professional liability cases.
In addition to his
litigation practice, Mr. Rice also represents several businesses and
healthcare organizations.
Mr. Rice is a Past
President of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the Augusta Bar
Association and the Younger Lawyers Club of Augusta. He served for a
number of years on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia and
has been active on numerous State Bar of Georgia committees, including
those involving Trial Lawyer Competency and Professionalism. He is a
member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute,
the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, a past Editor of the
Georgia Defense Law Journal and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Mr. Rice is active
in his community and has served as Chairman of the Richmond County Board
of Elections; Chairman, St. Joseph Hospital, Inc.; President, Kiwanis
Club of Augusta; President, Augusta Country Club; Chairman, Heart Fund;
Chairman, Aquinas High School PTO; and Chairman of the Wake Forest University
Parents Council.
He also has been an
active member of the Board of the United Way; the Advisory Board of Child
Enrichment, Inc., the Board of Visitors of Wake Forest University and Spring Hill College and the Parish Council of
St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Rice earned his
LLB degree from the University of Georgia in 1966 where he was the
Executive Editor of the Student Law Review of the Georgia Bar Journal. He
is a frequent speaker at state, regional and national continuing legal
education seminars.
He and his wife of
35 years, Susan, have four (4) children and have six (6) grandchildren.
